“The “Sadako” Trilogy: The Evil Within” is a text about a movie franchise, adapted from the books by Koji Suzuki.
The first two films – “Ringu” (1998) and “Ringu 2” (1999) – are directed by Hideo Nakatа, director of the horror-drama “Dark Water”. The films tell about the enigmatic and misfortune happenings surrounding a mysterious videotape. If you watch it you die in a week. A young woman-journalist, trying to solve the recording, slowly gets to the truth – the spirit of a girl, called Sadako is breeding the terror; while she was alive she had psychic abilities.
Тhe third film – “Ringu 0” (2000) – is directed by Norio Tsuruta; it is a prequel to the previous two. It tells the story about Sadako’s life and describes her as a character with schizophrenia: the first half is a home of a beautiful and vulnerable creature; the second half hides an evil figure of madness and death.
The text is also about the plot of the trilogy; the two remakes – one Korean (“The Ring Virus”), and the second one American (“The Ring”), are mentioned too; there’s a brief presentation of the modern horror-genre, which in nowadays deserts the West, but storms the East. There’s analysis to each one of the three films, and a parallel to a similar movies from the near and not so near past.
